It was an unprecedented Oscar mistake. After the cast and crew of "La La Land" had accepted the Oscar for Best Picture, it was revealed that the actualwinner was "Moonlight," a heartbreaking coming-of-age tale based largely on the lives of director Barry Jenkins and writer Tarell Alvin McCrane.

"We spent so much time with the "La La Land crew,'' it was bittersweet," "Moonlight" Director Barry Jenkins told Entertainment Tonight.

"I think when you're sitting in the room, you know, I've gone through this so much; they call a name, they don't call a name, it is what it is, you get over it."

By the time "La La Land" producer Jordan Horowitz announced there'd been a mistake, Jenkins "had gotten through [it and] like everyone else I was applauding, I was celebrating the win."

"I could see in Jordan's face that he was speaking the truth, and in that moment I just felt I wanted to feel compassion," he recalled. "It couldn't have been easy, but these things happen. I can't not have those guys in my heart."
